SES & Guest House

SES uses the Guest House for classes, social events, short and long-term stays for teachers, friends, volunteers and out-of-town visitors. Guests are invited to use the house while enjoying their stay in the Nikaho area. Below gives you a little more information.

General Information:

The House has a small fully equipped kitchen, which has a 2-burner stove, small microwave/conventional oven, and refrigerator.   You have everything you need to cook a simple meal.  There is also a small tatami room off the kitchen where you can eat your meals. If you prefer eating your meals at a western style table, then please use the dining room, which has a standard height table and 4 chairs. There is also a larger 8-tatami room with traditional tokonoma (alcove), where you can enjoy eating a meal with other guests. The adult, junior high school and high school classes are taught in the dinning room and large tatami room during the week. The SES office is currently upstairs.

Sleeping rooms:

The House has 2 guest rooms for our short-term teachers, volunteers and out of town guest to stay comfortably while with us.  Each room has a kerosene heater for colder weather in the winter.

Guest responsibilities:

Each guest is asked to cooperate with the other guests and staff in sharing the common rooms during their stay.  These rooms are the kitchen, dining room, adjacent tatami room, tokonoma tatami room, wash/shower room, toilet and clothes drying area, which is just off the tokonoma tatami room.

Each guest is expected to leave the Guest House as it was when they came. Each room used should be cleaned and sanitized for the next people to enjoy their stay.  Be considerate of your neighbors; there should be no unusual loud noise that will bother the neighbors. Trash rules are followed very closely and should be followed exactly.  No shoes are to be worn inside the House. Please take off your shoes in the entrance way. Slippers should be taken off before entering a tatami room.

SES hopes that the availability and hospitality of the Guest House will draw friends, new staff and volunteers to settle in for a time of exploring the scenic attractions of this beautiful area of NW Japan.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have and to set up a time to visit us here in Kisakatamachi, Nikahoshi, Akitaken!!

Thank you,

Sloan Carlson
